Can I mail things to Adventure Alaska ahead of time so I can travel with less luggage?

Yes, some guests prefer to ship items ahead to save the hassle of traveling with many bags or to save on weight for float plane travel. We recommend the U.S. Postal Service as they have the best shipping rates by about ¼ the cost of UPS, FED EX and DHL. Please just let us know that you will be sending some boxes and use the address below.

Do we need to bring sleeping bags?
NO, our cottages have all the comforts of home including all bed and bath linens.
Do you have fishing rods for rent?
We do have saltwater as well as freshwater rods and reels for all guests to use. We also have crab and shrimp pots, this equipment is available for use free of charge.
Do we need bug netting?
Bugs are not a big problem in our area most of the bad bug problems are farther north. But just in case we recommend packing a good bug spray. (Available for purchase locally)

Once I catch all my fish how do I get it home?
Once fish is caught, filleted and frozen it will be boxed and strapped in 50 pound fish boxes. These boxes are shipped out as regular luggage on Alaska Airlines and will travel home with you.
Should I bring waders or hip boots?
While it is not mandatory to have chest waders to fish the streams we recommend them. A lightweight pair of chest waders combined with a good rain jacket will give you a great rain suit even if you are not wading in the streams. Staying dry keeps people smiling longer.
Are felt soles legal in Alaska?
Starting January 2012 no felt-sole wading shoes can be used in Alaska while sport fishing in fresh water.
What is the weather like?
A cool, moist climate prevails in southeast Alaska. During the summers, average temperatures may vary from 46 to 70 degrees! Precipitation is always possible during your stay on the island regardless of the time of year. Rainfall averages from 60 to 160 inches per year. Good rain gear and waterproof boots are recommended as well as clothing that can handle the temperature ranges described. To see a full list of recommended things to bring

What are the costs for fishing licenses and can I purchase them once I arrive?
Fishing - 1 day - $20.00, 3 day - $35.00, 7 day - $55.00, 14 day - $80.00

Adventure Alaska has fishing and hunting licenses available for purchase. Fees are as follows.
King Stamp - 1 – Day $10.00, 3 day - $20.00, 7 day - $30.00, 14 day - $50.00
Is there a grocery store nearby or do we need to fly in groceries?
We do have a well-stocked grocery store within a couple minutes drive. No need to fly food in with you.
Does Alaska require hunter orange?
No hunter orange is required.
Does Alaska require hunter safety for minors?
No hunter safety courses are required, nor are there age restrictions for hunters in Alaska.
