SELF GUIDED HUNTING PACKAGES
Hunting on Prince of Wales consists of Black bear, Sitka Blacktail deer and waterfowl. Success rates range from 55-85%. With a high number of harvested animals making the Boone & Crocket Record Book our guests have proven a guide is not necessary for hunting on our island as we offer no guided big game hunting. Bear hunting season includes both spring and fall with the fall hunt including sitka deer. Put yourself in the shoes of one of our past guests as you read his review of the hunt:
"As the first week of May approached, I grew excited with anticipation of my upcoming self-guided black bear hunt on Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. My hunt began with meeting three fellow hunters, Dan Bantley, Derrick Bantley, and Joe Workosky, all of whom were traveling from Pennsylvania to join me on the hunt. The weather upon arrival to the island was perfect, sunny and in the mid 60’s. The first day in the field started with the spotting of two bears within twenty minutes. I had expected such results, but my friends seemed quite surprised. We decided to pass on these smaller bears. As our hunt progressed, Derrick Bantley tagged his bear on the second day, which was the first bear he had ever taken. I followed by harvesting a five hundred pound boar with a 19 15/16 skull (green score). Joe tagged out on the fourth day of the seven-day hunt. Dan Bantley was the only bow hunter in the party, and the only one not to tag out, although he had the opportunity. In all, the hunting party was three out of four on bears for the total hunt. We spotted a total of 37 bears. The hunt was made successful by the outstanding hospitality received from Adventure Alaska, who supplied lodging and transportation while in Prince of Wales Island. This type of hunt was extremely affordable. The total cost was less than $2000 while still having the opportunity to harvest a record book black bear."
